There is a special meeting this Tuesday 5:30 regarding the Health Department budget. The County board did not approve our budget for 2014 because they claim we have surplus money of about 500k. That money is there to cover underpayment/late payments by the state and needs to be there so we can keep our doors open . Also , what would happen in an outbreak /emergency and we needed vaccines etc . It is not surplus for a rainy day money . Generous raises (4%) were given to other county employees while the Health Department has cut 30K a month and not filling positions creating a larger work load for current staff. There have been lay offs ,not to mention the entire HD agreeing to take 4 furlough days this year for the overall better of the Health department . We all care about the Health Department and care about our community! If that money was just surplus money we would not have had to take such a personal hit ! Now they wont pass the budget ? The County Board needs to start telling the whole truth about the way they make decisions and we the citizens of Logan County need to be more involved; holding our officials accountable . If you care about our community and the services we provide please come to to the special meeting Tuesday, 5:30 at the Logan County Health Department. You have a voice and You have the right to be informed - cutting vital Health Care services effects the whole community!
