There is almost nothing I like about a State of the Union address, no matter who is giving it. I detest the phony, sentimental imagery, and theatrics. I despise the obvious politicizing of, well...everything. And there are a gazillion criticisms I could level against our current president, his performance after six years in office, the Democratic party, and our entire political system in general. All that said, the stodgy conservative Republicans who offered no applause during exhaustive lists of undeniable accomplishments, along with their supporters at home, look increasingly ridiculous to me - and, I hope, to many. The most valid criticisms of the president come from the left, for how far from progressive many of his policies have been. As to the others, anyone who can compare where our nation was immediately prior to Barack Obamas election, and right now, and not give credit to the president, and his policies, is silly. I dont care whether you agree with those policies, or not. But, if youre not capable of seeing what is better, and what is worse, then I apologize for saying so, but I cannot take you seriously. Your position is untenable.
