There is an art to welding aluminum in even the most perfect conditions, with the newest and cleanest materials. But it takes something really special to make a proper aluminum weld with old, abused, and dirty materials. Especially in an area that has been fixed already on multiple occasions. Client recently purchased a older trials bike that is in need of a few things. One big item for concern was the aluminum muffler had broken away from its mounts to the aluminum frame. After a quick inspection, it was easy to see that this wasnt the first time this had happened, probably not even the third or fourth. But since no one makes these mufflers anymore, it was necessary to try and fix what was there once again. We pulled the pieces off the bike and cleaned the joints as best we could. Then tig welded the old tabs back onto the muffler once again. The welds didnt come out as well as usual, but considering the circumstances, we were still happy with them. And the customer was elated we were able to save the well used muffler.
