There is an overwhelming amount of articles to read on the inter webs, and many are excellent, and some are worth sharing. But while many of these do make me think, their contributions are often ephemeral, and few really help me to think well. In light of that complaint, I want to start sharing now and then classic short articles (not more than 25 pages) that have really made a difference for how I think. If you wanted to do the same from time to time, the hours habitually spent on the web might be better spent. For my first offering, here is a contemporary classic essay that has helped me to think well. Its by my estimable colleague in philosophy, Msgr. Robert Sokolowski. It deals with how to distinguish the ends of things against the pressure of our own purposes... Its about as long as two blog posts, and youll be better for having read it.
