There is no test that can tell sugar from a GMO sugar beet from sugar for an organic, heirloom sugar beet. They are IDENTICAL, no difference. There is not DNA in any sugar. The same is true for HFCS, there is no way to tell that from GMO corn from conventional corn. Two other products that get branded with the GMO tag, is canola oil and soybean oil. If a test was lucky they might find some DNA to ID them but the amount is very tiny Our digestive system breaks down DNA, we dont absorb it, no matter if it is from a GMO crop, that Big Mac you had, organic tofu or dog hair from your pet. GMO crops are safe, they are tested more than any new hybrid is. There is no reason to fear them. Bioengineered foods have been consumed for close to 20 years, and during that time, no overt consequences on human health have been reported and/or substantiated in the peer-reviewed literature. - American Medical Association, 2012 No effects on human health have been shown as a result of the consumption of GM foods by the general population in the countries where they have been approved. -- World Health Organization, 2013 The science is quite clear: crop improvement by the modern molecular techniques of biotechnology is safe. -American Association for the Advancement of Science, 2012 The anti GMO movement is brought to us by those that fear vaccines and that see chemtrails in the sky. The organic food industry has encouraged it, so they can increase their market share. There are sites with a lot of credible information available, Two excellent ones that are independent are biotortified and The Genetic Literacy Project. They have article and links to 1,000 of studies both ones from the US and from the EU. I am very upset that TIME is allowing itself to be used to distribute misinformation and fear. We have plenty of fear peddlers in the media, we dont need Time to join them.
