There is not too much else as sobering as the death of someone you - TopicsExpress

There is not too much else as sobering as the death of someone you have known your whole life. In the past 24 hours, 2 men that I have known since my birth have been called to The Fathers House for Thanksgiving Dinner. Yesterday Afternoon (Friday 11/21/14) Mr. Charles Cope tragically died at the hospital as a result of an accidental fall at home earlier in the day. He and his wife, Elizabeth Cope, both taught my mother in the Rockdale County schools in the 1960s. They were both still in the school system up into the 1990s and taught most of my age students in this county also. Mr. and Mrs. Cope were also neighbors of mine. Their sons Drew Cope and Richard Cope both went to Heritage High , Drew just older than me and Richard just younger. This morning (Saturday 11/22/14) Mr. John Warren McCullough died peacefully in his home after a lengthy but hard fought battle with cancer. His wife Gwen Gordon McCullough and his brother Alton McCullough were with him as well as his nephew Cliff. Alton and Warren are descendants of the Granade family through their mother Marjorie Granade McCullough. The Granades are among the original founders of Rockdale Baptist church. This family helped to welcome my maternal great grandparents V.W. & Merlee Stockton into this neighborhood in the 1930s. our families have grown up together through the generations. Warren has always been kind and loving and spoken highly of my grands and greatgrands as well as my late mother. He loved his friends true and honest and deep. Alton and Arlen Cook McCullough have always been sort of back-up parents for me. I love them truly and deeply. They played a difficult but pivotal role in helping my family during the brief illness and sudden death of my mother in 1997. We have grown into a symbiotic relationship of service to one another. I love to take them fresh home made food because I cannot cook just a little bit... and they have been known to be emergency child keepers or child taxi when I needed someone. Their sons Craig McCullough and Glen McCullough also attended school around the same time as I did. Craig just older and Glen just younger. This morning just after 11 a.m. as I was leaving the grocery store, I called Gwen to ask her if Chris and I could come for a brief prayer with her and Warren. We arrived and had prayer with them as well as Alton and Cliff. Just after our prayer time, my sweet lifelong friend graciously took his leave from this life and was ushered into the Arms of Christ. I will forever be honored and humbled to have witnessed this dear brave stubborn Christian gentlemans departure. I helped her make some phone calls and did what little I could to help, and then I took my leave. To both Mr. Copes family and to Warrens family, If there is anything you need, please let us know. You have our love, sympathy and prayers. Bless you all Kimberly
