There is some debate on whether it is compulsory or voluntary to be present in our respective institutions on 2nd October. I earnestly appeal to all not to make this an issue for scoring political points. A request for maintaining cleanliness in the surroundings one works in cannot be faulted by any convolution of argument. It is only appropriate that the campaign Swatch Bharat, Swasth Bharat is launched on Gandhi Jayanti because Gandhiji firmly believed in the maxim cleanliness is next only to godliness. Quibbling on loss of a holiday would not paint university teachers in favourable colours. However I fully support those who maintain : a). it should not be merely va show for photo ops; and b).cleanliness in academic administration is as essential as physical cleanliness.
