There is something sacred about being the last one in a building - TopicsExpress

There is something sacred about being the last one in a building that has been office space for an organization about which you deeply care. I had the privilege to tend the sacred closing of the physical office space for the Christian Church in the Southwest. On that last day, I remember the sense of grief and loss washing over me as I sat alone - remembering the saints who had gone before and lingering just a moment to honor their work. The grief, though, was accompanied by a sense of freedom and hope to be who God calls the CCSW to be into the future. It was a sacred moment. Today, I have somewhat the same sense -- a sense of sacred remembering of all that has gone before as I sit alone and wait for the last clearing in this empty space that was the office for the National Benevolent Association Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for the last 10 years. For that which blossomed into incredible growth, for endeavors that withered and died along the way, for ideas that got caught in the weeds and struggled, and for projects that just fell along the pathway in the process... thanks be to God. Yes, this has been an important institution for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). AND, what is bubbling up in me this morning is this incredible sense of hope and possibility and amazing awe at what is happening already in this re-born organization! It is growing quickly and partnering with so many to see that the health and social service ministries of the church are strong and vibrant and connected. Developing hearts of care that seek justice in world-changing ways. It is SO exciting! As I sit in the quiet, I am imagining the prayer circle of the SIX founding women of NBA as they discussed all that might be possible -- never imagining what incredible things would unfold! And I realized something wonderful: I work with two gifted, bright, energetic MEN- one who has poured himself and his expertise into NBA for 27 years (and counting) and one who is leading us ALL as we lean into the future to which God is calling! AND, interestingly enough, I am working with SIX amazing women who work full-time for NBA ... (Yes, there are several other talented folks who join us as part-time, contract and consultant staff and others who will be joining us full-time soon!)....but, today...today...there are SIX women who work full-time for NBA. In the beginning, and into the future! I am blessed to be part of the great team of folks leaning-forward into the adventure! May it be so in BIG, God-powered ways! TbtG!
