There is what men would do, and then there is how God or the devil would use it for good or for evil. If you love God and are the called according to His purpose, nothing can separate you from His love and His promise to work all things together for good. If He is for you, who can be against you? If He pronounces you just, who can condemn you? Men may curse you; but God has blessed you. Men may esteem you smitten and afflicted of God; but even under the worst trials and tragedies of life, you remain the Lords beloved. Let the world and the church cast out your name as evil; it does not matter if the Lord calls you His own. Let men ask, Where is your God, but know He will never leave you, nor forsake you. Above all, rest in the love of your God. Cast all your cares upon Him because He cares for you. When trials come, you have not fallen into the cruel hands of men, you are still in the merciful and loving hands of your God. Unrighteous men would chase you from the earth and wish you burn in hell; but your God has promised to hold your hand through all this vale of tears and afterwards receive you to glory. Do not know yourself through the eyes of men, even men who would speak for God. Know yourself in Christ. Know yourself through the eyes of Him who has promised you the sure mercies of David. (Isaiah 55:3) Continue to heed the voice of your good Shepherd who has promised that goodness and mercy shall follow you all the days of your life. No man, however powerful; no devil, however sly, can wrench you from the loving hands and care of your Father. He is greater than all.
