There seems to be a significant amount of discussion in FB about individuals receiving food stamps. Additionally it appears to me there is the indication that those receiving food stamps are not really entitled to receive them. I know there is abuse in the system ~ there is abuse in all systems if the checks and balances are not in place. The regulations and rules governing food stamp qualification is monitored by state employees who are not given the resources required to ensure the individual/families qualify. The checks and balances cannot be fully realized by the state employees. What I dont see or read on FB is the discussion of parents giving to their children their assets so when the time comes they qualify for Medicaid. Most states have a five year look back. Ok so the parents are advised to give their children their assets sooner. If you qualify for Medicaid you qualify for food stamps. Shouldnt your assets be completely used for your personal care before you rely on the government? I understand we want to leave our children something. Shouldnt it be memories? Very little of the population of the USA realize the highest portion of Medicaid dollars is for the elderly who have given away their assets. This is a loophole I do not agree with ~ I plan on going out with my last penny between my finger and thumb. The way I feel is this; abuse and waste of tax dollars happens at all levels. I know I live in lala land but I vision all of my tax dollars goes toward child welfare. It is this mindset that makes me feel good about paying taxes. It is Federal grants, college loans and work study programs that allowed me to return to college late in life. Without the government assistance I would never have been able to attend and graduate from university with a bathelor degree. It is the college degree and some hard work that landed me in a wonderful career. I am absolutely fine with all of my Federal and NC states going toward helping children. So in a sense through my tax dollars I am paying it forward. Should we continue to hold to government accountable absolutely! I would to suggest each individual pick their own tax dollar project to have piece of mind instead of bashing individuals. Ok Ill get off my soapbox and go back to enjoying my Sunday morning coffee.
