There seems to be an underlying battle between good work and grace. If someone practices good work with no faith in Jesus Christ are they saved? What about the good works we did before we believed? If you have faith in Jesus Christ what does good works buy you? First I would like to say, if you have faith in Jesus you will want to do good works, according to the abilities God gives you, once you realize what God has done for you. The question about good works before you believe or without believing is more confusing. Some say it is sin, but good is good even if you do so without faith in God. What does good have to do with evil? The question would really be, if you do not have faith are you evil? It is impossible to please God without faith, or He is already pleased with us as some say? To serve God you must believe He exists, but does that make your good works evil? “And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books” (Revelation 20:12). And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:15). It looks like the Lamb decides; we don’t judge another’s good works.
