There seems to be confusion on this subject, so let me clear up a couple of things. The Tigers (including DD) nor the Nationals were aware of any pre-existing issues with Doug Fisters right arm, and the fact that hes currently on the DL serves as absolutely no justification of the trade. Before you get all up in arms, lemme explain... 1. Nondisclosure of injuries is something that baseball doesnt really look too kindly on. If Washington found out that there was a pre-existing condition and DD had pulled the wool over their eyes, then fines or loss of draft picks could follow. 2. Fister passed his physical. If he had a pre-existing condition, this, in all likelihood, would have been turned up in a physical, especially by a team making a significant investment in the limb in question. If he didnt pass, the trade would have been voided on the spot. 3. Should something have come up and the Nationals not have know about it, the situation is what we refer to as medical malpractice, and likely to have resulted in a revocation of the doctors license, fines, and the like. As such, any argument that Fister heading to the DL shows that the Tigers won the trade isnt based on anything grounded in anything with any significance to anything. The next time somebody tries to tell you that Dave Dombrowski knew about Fisters injury before the trade, kindly refer them to this post to quash the conspiracy theories once and for all.
