There, too, we read: These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee. Admonish them to be subject to princes and powers. When then should we think? Can it be that the Apostle holds contrary opinions to himself, since though he says that teachers are formed by the action of the Holy Spirit, he himself give others instructions as to what and how they should teach? Or are we to understand that even with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, mans help too is not to be dispensed with in the instructing of even the instructors themselves, and still, neither he that planteth is anything, nor he that watereth, but God that giveth the increase? And so it is that though, too, holy men themselves should help, or even the holy Angels should lend their aid, no one learns aright the things which pertain to life with God, if he becomes not through God, docile to God, to whom it is said in the Psalms: Teach me to do thy will, for Thou art my God. Deep. Augustine was ahead of his age. He is saying if the Holy Spirit is our teacher why do we need teachers of men? And if you are a teacher when can you think and know what to teach? Augustine was saying if not through God and docile to God you cannot teach. He is saying we have to be filled and led in the Spirit to be an appropriate teacher. Man we cant teach ourselves or teach others what we want. Holy Spirit!
