There was a concert tonight in Mexico City of baroque music in a church, the Parish of Regina Coeli, from the same era as the music that was performed (17th & 18th century). It was a very intimate event with seven musicians and about 20 people in attendance. Outside, next to the walls of the church, there was a film festival with a powerful sound system that almost continuously drowned out the concert music even though the walls of the church were at least 3 feet thick. As the musicians were about to perform a piece by Vivaldi, El mayor de los dorados, by Antonio Aguilar came blasting from outside, a Mexican song of the Revolution. When the concert ended, Pedro and I left the venue and watched part of the film festival which included clips from a documentary called Besos. A wonderful documentary of kissing in Mexico City. People kiss everywhere, inside churches, on street corners, in the most unusual places. In fact, Pedro and I were in the Zocalo (Main plaza) when the documentary was filmed, I think around Valentines Day in 2010. Everyone came out to kiss. Men kissing women, women kissing men, women kissing women and men kissing men. Only in Mexico! It was a wonderful concert. I feel at home. Viva Mexico! and long live separation of church and state!
