There was a false report claiming Banksy was arrested and identified today. Im glad he wasnt but the article did manage to find a great quote from him. The people who truly deface our neighborhoods are the companies that scrawl giant slogans across buildings and buses trying to make us feel inadequate unless we buy their stuff Any advertisement in public space that gives you no choice whether you see it or not is yours, it belongs to you, its yours to take, rearrange and reuse. Asking for permission is like asking to keep a rock someone just threw at your head. You owe the companies nothing. You especially dont owe them any courtesy. They have rearranged the world to put themselves in front of you. They never asked for your permission, dont even start asking for theirs. It also reminds me of Sao Paulo banning advertising across the entire city. An incredible reminder that the towns and cities we live in are ours and we can choose what we permit within it. There is a great video about Sao Paulo and their decision. Take a minute to think about it and we can start to take back our skies and skylines.
