There was a film, starring Robin Williams, that was released in 1998. It was titled, What Dreams May Come. The film is based on the 1978 novel of the same name by Richard Matheson. The title comes from a line in Hamlets To be, or not to be... soliloquy, namely, For in that sleep of death what dreams may come / When we have shuffled off this mortal coil, / Must give us pause. The plot outline in the novel (and the film) contains several allegorical references to Dante Alighieris epic poem The Divine Comedy (1308–1321). For those who are not familiar with the film, Robin Williams played a man who falls in love with a beautiful woman, they marry and it seems that they will live happy ever after; but tragedy strikes. Robin williams character is killed in a car accident and then dwells in a land of limbo for some time after his death. His lovely wife succumbs to a profound state of depression and takes her own life. He then follows her to hell to save her with his love. If you have never seen this movie, I urge you to pick up a copy today and watch it. It is one of my favorite Robin Williams performances of all time!
