There was a good article today in the TJ about Natural Resource Development (Thats the new PC term for Fracking in case you were wondering.) The author pointed out how many of our younger people are leaving for out west, to seek their fortune in booming economies such as Alberta or Saskatchewan. The author also correctly points out that all the hot, booming areas in Canada now are actively developing their Natural Resources i.e. Alberta, Saskatchewan and Newfoundland. Now what I enjoyed is that the article wasnt debating the merits of shale gas but it was asking a simple question: If as a province we arent prepared to make use of our natural resources, what do we do to help stimulate the provincial economy? Its a great question and one I am going to ask you...what exactly would you do? Also just two quick caveats before we begin. 1) I am sure someone will mention developing renewable energy sources, it always comes up. I agree with that as a long term strategy but as our province is already in a half a billion dollars debt, throwing hundreds of millions of dollars at renewable energy sources isnt possible 2) The next thing people bring up is legalizing marijuana and taxing it. I agree with that as well but it will require federal approval before that happens so its not exactly in our hands to do something about. Ok so with those two quick points out of the way, whatta got?
