There was a nor-waster in our place, this afternoon. And due to that, electricity was going out from everywhere! Daughter’s place-no electricity, brother-in-laws’ place-no, friend’s place-No. Going-going-gone! Panic was setting in, allover!! Fill up the water buckets. Charge the emergency light. Buy some extra candles. What else? Oh, my god! The freeze is full. Only today, a premium Hilsa fish was bought. It was really a ‘neighbors envy, owners’ pride stuff .What to do? A big confusion was all around! I took a philosopher’s stand, “let’s see what happens!” My wife was suddenly in all smiles. She said very gleefully, “our area must be in a ‘safe’ zone. It is so near to the crematorium.” “Stop the bloody cricket commentary & put on the TV news”, somebody shouted. The TV screen was full of pretty faces and telling the stories of their woes. Their mascara was all smudged! They were almost crying as their kitty party for the night went ‘kaput’! Our light went off at 6:45pm. In the sky, there was a bright moon! The weather was cool & sweet smell of Juhi & Mogra was coming from nearby. Suddenly, I remembered our olden days at Uluberia (a sub-divisional town of Howrah dist.). My father was in charge of the hospital. There was no electricity in Uluberia and we stayed there for quite some time and enjoyed the stay! For a moment, I thought it was nice to be without any electricity! We have become little over dependent. P.S. the electricity finally came back at around 10:15 pm.
