There was a song back in the 70’s by Simon and Garfunkel that said, “I am a rock. I am an island”. I used to sing that song as a motto but as I grow older I realize I am full of mud. I am a piece of cotton; soft and fragile. I am a busy intersection filled with people and activities. God gave us a heart to love and to care for each other. We cannot isolate ourselves from the world. We will experience pain, suffering and even death but we will also experience love, joy, peace and even laughter. Life is not bowl of cherries and you never know what you are going to get as Forest Gump’s mama says. Life is a rose, soft, beautiful and sweet to smell but it also has thorns. To enjoy the fragrance and soft beauty we have to be smart, careful and aware of our journey. Life is more like a bag of M & M’s. You may not know the color you will pick but sure as the world you know you will enjoy the whole bag.
