There was a song that I used to sing...be around the world, theres no place like home. I am petrified to use the word home now. Oh Nagas, where do we stand in this day and age when we are continuously subjugated, terrorised, and mercilessly slaughtered like animals? The Government of Manipur has once again showed its true colors: armed aggression is the only way to deal with any kind of situation. Ukhrul saw what Ibobi had planned for the Nagas. Tens of thousands of Nagas from more than 50 villages had gathered for a peaceful and democratic protest all over Ukhrul District Headquarters when the Superintendent of Police, Ukhrul ordered tear gas and mock bombs to be fired into the peaceful crowd gathered at Awontang. The crowd stood still, unflinching, even as bombs and shells flew past them and into them. Even as the crowd stood its ground, the police knew they were facing a crowd that was not going anywhere-not scared of bombs, tear gas and bullets. They began to retreat in fear and in doing so, several commando personnel led by the SP of Ukhrul, Selvan, began mercilessly firing into the unarmed peaceful crowd with automatic gun fire. Two of our brothers who were standing still and watching the SPs convoy pass by fell instantly while many others were injured by the merciless and indiscriminate firing of the passing convoy. The crowd turned emotional upon seeing and hearing of the deaths of Mayopam Ramror and Ramkashing Vashi, and finally turned into an irate mob. Commando personnel who were still armed and firing were mercilessly thrashed and their arms snatched. Vehicles were stopped mid way, turned turtle and torched. The communal government of Manipur led by Okram Ibobi Singh and his gang of spineless and cowardly thugs (read Ministers) who were watching the bloodshed from the comforts of their corruptedly gained air conditioned posh houses, must be heaving a sigh of relief. The blood of innocent Nagas who dared to fight colonial oppression and communal forces, who had come to rob them of their rights have been spilled. Yet, those spineless Minister thugs keep silent and went about their usual day as though it was just another incident which didnt require their attention. 4 Commandos, 1 IRB and a lady constable, were caught in the ensuing melee. The irate mob thrashed them but the lady was spared unharmed. They were all released later in the evening-showing our Nagas respect for human lives, showing that we Nagas are a people with dignity and honor, one that the Communal Government of Manipur does not possess. Thinking back to what had happened yesterday and going through the news online and the various posts on social networking sites this morning, I shed tears. Not tears of sorrow and sadness and of heartache, but one of Joy. I am overjoyed, overwhelmed by our peoples united show of resentment to hijacking of our rights. Our voice was solid, intact and unshaken. Our resolve and will to fight on still is. Amei Mayopam eina itao Ramkashing, iwui mirin khaya kalak eina ringkhavai wui vang nani na ashee tamida mangla chikatmihairakho. Iya ningshi kachangkhat kho.
