There was a time when Milwaukee was more attractive for professional athletes to play there, particularly African American athletes. If I were the Mayor of Milwaukee, I would pull a Mike Holmgren/Ron Wolf (former Green Bay Packers head coach and general manager) and work with the new owners of the team to recruit athletes who would help me build and strengthen the city (the way Holmgren and Wolf worked with the city of Green Bay to make it an attractive place for Black players and top talent). I wouldnt focus only on selling a new sports arena; I would focus on selling the City of Milwaukee (and State of Wisconsin). I would ask the Bucks (and Brewers) and their players to help me recruit new employers, teachers, homeowners and investment to the city, which are critical to the future success of Milwaukee. I would also ask players to not only visit schools and host one-week basketball camps and clinics each year, but personally adopt some of the struggling schools in Milwaukee and work alongside the principals and staff to help inspire the kids and turn them around. Milwaukee should get so much more out of building a new arena, which will need taxpayers to help foot the bill. And I wouldnt hire Jason Kidd to be anything but an assistant coach; not yet anyway.
