There were many noteworthy moments at the British Fashion Awards - TopicsExpress

There were many noteworthy moments at the British Fashion Awards last night, most of which happened after the last red carpet step-and-repeat was stepped. There was a rare John Galliano appearance, a heartfelt Anna Wintour speech, a tearful tribute from one Delevingne sister (Poppy) to another (Cara), and plenty of thanks to the late, great Louise Wilson. But, in true fashion form, the chatter first started on the red carpet, where honorees and guests discussed what (or whom) they were wearing. In keeping with the nights theme, most of the looks ahead came courtesy of British designers — from Rihannas scanty Stella McCartney outfit to Alexa Chung and Olivia Palermo both in styles from the emerging Emilia Wickstead. In tribute to the risk-taking, cheeky, and conversation-starting creations from the U.K. (and beyond), here are the best looks from last nights prestigious event. Michelle Dockery stunned in Erdem, and founder Erdem Moralioglu just so happened to win the Womenswear Designer of the Year Award. Olivia Palermo inspired us to try this for the holidays: Match a luxe ball-gown skirt, like this Emilia Wickstead one, with a tee of a totally different fabric. Cara Delevingne might have opted for a floor-length beaded design, but the geometric colorblocking on this Burberry Prorsum number keeps it a bit sporty to match the models off-duty style. If you were wondering where all the cutouts went, they are right here on Joan Smalls Tom Ford dress. While Anna Wintour can often be found wearing Chanel and Prada, she made a statement with her choice to wear a John Galliano creation from his new post at Maison Martin Margiela. Alexa Chung, also in Emilia Wickstead, had arguably the best handbag of the night in the form of a take-out container-shaped piece by Charlotte Olympia. Theres no question about who wears the pants around here. Its Emma Watson, and her pair of choice is oversized and by Misha Nonoo. Poppy Delevingnes sheer party frock is from Topshop — proof that British fashion, both luxury and high-street, was celebrated last night. No pants, no shirt, no problem. Rihanna in Stella McCartney never ceases to amaze us. Kendall Jenners Emilio Pucci jumpsuit is best appreciated from the side, where you can peek the athletic-inspired racing stripe. Rita Oras Tom Ford ensemble didnt skimp on slit height. Or drama. Ashley Madewkes Bianca Jagger-esque white suit is from Banana Republic. Yes, BANANA REPUBLIC. Victoria Beckham in Brand of the Year winner Victoria Beckham. What else? Suki Waterhouse was charming in a tiered Burberry Prorsum frock plucked from the spring runway, and a color-coordinating handbag. Naomie Harris Peter Pilotto piece was bold, graphic, and bright from afar. Up close, you can see its also embellished with sparkling Swarovski crystals, the sponsor of last nights event.
