There will never be transports or extermination camps for the Palestinians, but amid increasing violence against Palestinians larger and larger numbers of them will die, in airstrikes, targeted assassinations and other armed attacks. Hunger and misery will expand. Israeli demands for “transfer”—the forced expulsion of Palestinians from occupied territory to neighboring countries—will grow. This is an admittance that they can never exterminate the Palestinians not to mention that Israel is, in reality, an armed Jewish ghetto surrounded by hostile Arab nations. Israel has always been an occupying force of militaristic settlers and they will last as long as middle east oil lasts and as long as oil is the worlds main power source. The U.S. Empire is already crumbling and when it goes or middle eastern oil runs out, so will the U.S. client state, de facto military garrison, of Israel be gone. The U.S. has no allegiance except to the bottom line and no matter how strong AIPAC may become if Israel is unprofitable and not strategic, no Israel. In the multi-power and multi powered world of the future Israel will cease to exist. The Palestinians know that time is on their side and they have already won as they have convinced their enemy that the conflict is there to stay until the state of Israel exists no more. Not only has immigration ceased but one million of Israel’s most enlightened and educated citizens have left the country, as Hedges pointed out in a previous column. Israel may dream of transferring Palestinians to neighboring countries but most will resist and no matter how much of their land Israel steals the Palestinians will continue to outbreed the Israelis. Unless massively transferred by 2050 any fair election will overwhelmingly be decided by Palestinians. The Israelis should give some thought as to how forgiving the Palestinians would be then. So Israel will have to keep taking increasingly radical steps including possibly turning its armed nation state ghetto into a secret police state ghetto. What incredible irony. The whole world will be watching and boycotts and sanctions will come as the horror increases. Israels days have always been numbered and if it had any sense it would make as many concessions as necessary to gain Palestinian consent. I cannot care about an Israel which has become almost as bad as Nazi Germany.
