“Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest - TopicsExpress

“Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:13-16 “Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.” 1 Peter 2:1-3 Before I was lifted up by Christ, before God intervened in my life, I lived by my rules and did what I chose to do. I sought my successes, I sought my wealth which brought me toys and gave my family fine things. Then God stepped into my life and I made a choice right then to stop living my life and to live the life that God has always had planned for me. You see, I was meant to experience what I did in the first part of my life. Then I was shown mercy and what my true path has always been. For all of us there comes moments when God intervenes in our lives. Maybe we have come to know the depth of our sin, maybe we have finally broken down enough to see the truth of our own weakness and have begged for mercy and forgiveness. When we taste of the compassion of Christ, it is up to us to continue to seek Him, to continue to grow in the word of God. It is not for us to feel that freedom of forgiveness and to be grateful for a moment and then go on with our lives. It is for us to know our blessings and to choose to change our lives. Truly tasting of the grace of God should lead us to desire Him and His Son more and more. As a newborn babe needs milk to grow and requires it around the clock, we should be desiring to know what we need to do in our lives to become more Christ-like. We need to be practicing what it means to be a Christian with the focus and intensity of fighting for our lives. We grow day by day in faith. We mature in our character and we become stronger so that our reactions to others are Christian reactions and not merely emotional ones or strategic ones. We must let go of our hold on this world and our control over our own worlds day by day. We need to depend more and more on God and know that through our submission to His will for our lives, we become better servants to the kingdom of heaven and better disciples of Christ. “And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear” 1 Peter 1:17 Pastor John Collins
