Theres been discussion on first productions vs subsequent stagings and Im wondering how careful you are about that first production. On the one hand, its hard for an unknown playwright to get staged so I wouldnt want to turn down an offer. But on the other hand, theres only one first time and from what people are saying it can be harder after that premier? The whole thing seems kind of crazy. A first production at a small theater might only be seen by a few people. If a work is only staged once, it hardly seems worth the effort. I had been operating under the (possibly mistaken?) assumption that being able to show a decent production history would make a play MORE attractive to theaters. Experiences?
