Theres been something on my mind for the past couple of days, and I hope to instill this post with some positivity. A new friend and I were talking on Saturday, and in the course of our conversation, it was discovered that we are both relatively new to the area (just over 2 years for both of us). We have both been approached by people and asked Why Bristow? in a tone that indicated something along the lines of WHY ON EARTH would you choose to live in such a terrible place? Ive been here two and half years. This weekend I celebrate my first year in my first ever purchased home, and I PROUDLY consider this town my new hometown. Ive met wonderful people. Weve basically planted ourselves in this COMMUNITY and wed love to see it grow and prosper. Ive been doing some thinking on this topic. You know what makes a community? Its not taxes, its not council members, its not even the businesses. Its PEOPLE! Yes, all those other things can add to or take away from a community, but the BASIC BUILDING BLOCK of any community is PEOPLE!!! Its people who work, and play, and love. Its people who give and help and welcome new folks. Its people, plain and simple. I know many of us have our opinions (and this post is *NOT* a place to air them!) on how this town can improve and whats needed to grow, etc. However.... My request is this: The next time you meet a person who is new to the area, please, for the love of Bristow, SAY SOMETHING POSITIVE! (This post IS THE PLACE for that!) My favorite places in town? The coffee shop, Town Square, The Depot, Main Street in general, Kemps, the City Park, and my favorite restaurant, Medranos.
