Theres no place like home theres no place like home How do you define a great fishery? Is it by the number of fish, the average size, diversity of species, amount of bait or number of trophies? Maybe all of the above but to me it’s simple, how easy is it to catch nice fish. When I think of other lakes and what they have to offer it is very difficult to compare what we have in Simcoe, particularly given its proximity to a major population. Simcoe has often been referred to as “ the fish factory”. That really isn’t true if you consider natural reproduction. In fact over the last 30 years most of our winter fishery is manmade and managed. We did have a flurry of natural trout and whitefish reproduction back in 2003 and 2005 but I’m not sure there is much if any natural recruitment anymore.
