Theres nothing more painful in my business than giving my all to a client/friend: investing time, effort and sometimes free upgrades, only to have them use competitors pricing to haggle me down in price. My pricing in our early days was at cost price, as an investment for me to get more practice with my measurements. Our pricing now is still promotional with very little profit margin, so that our clothing can be an accessible alternative to the poorly-made (and often falsely labelled) suits that most men are used to buying. I learned recently that I should never discount. It devalues the service I provide in both the clients mind and my own. Instead, I should take on the mindset of investing in a client. Of offering a gift that I believe the client will cherish & share about as the cherry on top of an amazing service sundae. Sure, some might be bad investments, but there comes a time when we need to filter out the people that arent in alignment with our commitments.
