There’s no other thing I do that is more gratifying on the physical plane, than attempting to clarify something I didn’t make clear when I stated it at an earlier time, except the feeling of confidence that I have done so. Unfortunately, my only plan on how to do this is to rearrange my limited vocabulary, add a few more words and eliminate a few. Sometimes this works. Let’s see if it does this time. I, like most people, understand that war is one of the horrors of mankind. Yet, there has most likely never been a time in the history of man that someone somewhere has not been “a warring”. In all the wars that have ever been fought, someone profited. Some of that profit was because of greed, some, for no other reason than that a vast array of supplies were needed and someone had to produce and deliver those supplies. I have had the opportunity to sit and marvel at the hatred that average people are willing to express toward any part of society that is different than they are or who hold different political, religious or cultural positions. This, I observed on the men’s room stall door in “La Condesa” restaurant in Antigua Guatemala around 2002. The Condesa is not a greasy spoon, where one might expect to find such etchings. (please excuse the profiling) Still, there, on those draught house walls, a war of vehement words between individuals who didn’t even know each other was raging. Human beings are warriors; they will war with each other on any issues to varying degrees. Brother against sister, daughter against mother husband against wife; it just keeps going and “proliferating”. Just look at what people say to each other on any internet site that has a response box. ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq) apparently too brutal even for al-Qaeda, rose up a while back and started killing people and has overrun a large number of cities in their effort to get to and overtake Bagdad. Am I to believe that these zealots were coerced or cajoled by oil company spies, into warring, to control Iraq? Please. As I type this, in various countries all over the world, there is an average of 28 battles going on. This is not big bad companies greedy for land or minerals; this is the nature of man; believe it. Finally, even if somewhere there are some greedy bastards filling their pockets because of their involvement in wars or politicians with a personal agenda whose carriers can somehow be bolstered by supporting military involvement, should America stand back and watch as a blood thirsty, out of control mob of zealots takes over an entire country to establish a ruthless government that would certainly execute the entire families of those who had opposed them and then do everything in their power to terrorize the whole western world? Should we have stayed out of World War Two as many had insisted? Where would the world be if when someone struck another, no one stepped up to defend them. To put it simply, there are bad guys in the world and good guys have to be brave, stand up and stop them even if the good guy needs help from another type of bad guy to do it. You’d have to convince the bad guys not to be bad if you wanted to change this. Go ahead…try.
