There’s something about Loren Connors’ guitar playing that really gets me. It may be the gentleness and brutality that are so inextricably intertwined. & also the sense I get that he is so tuned in, always listening deeply for something before laying down each note, never rushed, never showy about it. He’s one of the musicians I most admire, the way he plays makes me realize that I want music to be my life’s work — and that peaking and crashing and burning is a much more tragic and more truncated narrative than I ever realized when I was first starting to play music and romanticized such things.
