These are the results from the Oldham Metropolitan Brass Band Association’s Slow Melody and Quartet competition held at Austerlands Cricket Club on Sunday 19th October 2014. Primary Section (under the age of 12) 1st place – Phoebe Collins, cornet, Lees Band 2nd place – Michael Ballantyne, cornet, Lees Band 3rd place – Melissa Prichard, tenor horn, Boarshurst Youth Band 4th place – Amy Naylor, cornet, Dobcross Youth Band Best Euphonium – Luke Bradbury, Boarshurst Youth Band Best Cornet - Phoebe Collins, Lees Band Youngest Player – Oliver Preece, aged 5, cornet, Boarshurst Youth Band Junior Section (15 years and under) 1st place – Joe Ellison, euphonium, Lees Band 2nd place – Will Bartley, euphonium, The Oldham Band (Lees) 3rd place – Alex Cockburn, E flat bass, The Oldham Band (Lees) 4th place – Emily Collins, baritone, The Oldham Band (Lees) Best Euphonium – Joe Ellison, Lees Band Best Cornet – Ryan Ashley, Boarshurst Youth Band Junior Section Quartet (15 years and under) 1st place – Minims quartet from Dobcross Youth Band Open Section 1st place – Jenny Brown, tenor horn, Bare Trees Community Band 2nd place – Will Bartley, euphonium, The Oldham Band (Lees) 3rd place – Oliver Griffin, tenor horn, Lees Band 4th place – Alex Cockburn, E flat bass, The Oldham Band (Lees) Best Euphonium – Will Bartley, The Oldham Band (Lees) Best Cornet – Charlotte Cockburn, cornet, The Oldham Band (Lees) Best Bass – Alex Cockburn, The Oldham Band (Lees) Organiser George Briggs was impressed with the turnout and was pleased to see so many of the local bands represented at the event. On behalf of the Oldham Metropolitan Brass Band Committee, he would like to thank members of Oldham Council for their sponsorship of the prizes and Brian Harper for agreeing to take on the difficult job of adjudicator. Brian Harper was impressed with the quality of playing in all sections and congratulates the brass bands, teachers and parents from the Oldham area on their hard work and commitment which have resulted in the development of such fantastic musicians.
