Their speeches are almost always for the right wing/Republican organizations and donors. In many cases, Roberts and Scalia usually appear before the Heritage Foundation, the Hoover Institute and others. Scalia lectures new conservative members of Congress on the Constitution. Thomas wife works for the Heritage Foundation. In the Florida Ballot Count Issue in 2000, Thomas refuse to recuse himself from the vote. He and his wife insisted there was no conflict of interest. They may not accept money for speaking engagements (called Honoraria, other than reimbursement of reasonable expenses. The institution to which they speak may, instead, donate a maximum of $2,000 to a charity on the speakers behalf. Retired justices, on the other hand, sometimes command six-figure fees for a single key-note address.
