These graphics taught me some things about the minimum wage - TopicsExpress

These graphics taught me some things about the minimum wage debate, in simple terms that simple me could understand. Im fiscally liberal at times, but I definitely fall on the conservative side of this debate. Im not sure what part of raising minimum wage will only cause soaring inflation people dont understand. And as a small business owner, I can tell you that that related argument is absolutely true as well. I would either have to shut up shop, or jack my prices up MAJORLY. MY argument and concern on this issue has been that it makes absolutely NO sense for minimum wage to be the same no matter where you live. Obviously its far more expensive to live in places like California and New York than it is here in Texas. Well, according to one of these graphics, most high cost of living states have already addressed this by raising their own minimums above what is federally mandated...so I was glad to see that. But heres what I dont get: So GAP, or McDonalds, raises their minimum wages. Where do you think that money is going to come from? INCREASED PRICES. You might say that you dont mind paying a couple of extra dollars for a hamburger, or whatever...but its not just going to be your hamburger. Its going to effect prices ACROSS THE BOARD, down to the basic necessities of life (rent, food, utilities) eventually completely negating the intended purpose of the minimum wage hike, and possibly even making things worse (increased unemployment). This seems COMPLETELY obvious to me! What am I missing?! Anyway. They aint probably no one still reading, but this IS a nifty little click through link: upworthy/25-really-engaging-images-about-minimum-wage-5?c=ufb3
