These opera critics cannot get past misogynistic prejudices and do their jobs. Physical aesthetics are ephemeral, culturally-bound constructions, whereas perfected technique and pursuit of musicality and expression are timeless. Clearly, their professionalism and integrity in judging the quality of performance is absent. It takes an incalculable amount of courage to accept the vulnerability of performing onstage. The physical characteristics of the performer, whether male or female, certainly do not affect that performers ability to convey emotion through music. Enter Pavarotti or Montserrat Caballe...
