These past 12 days I watched my sons health decline in front of my eyes. I heard him complain of a stiff neck & headache, saw him waddle from one foot to another, treated a low grade fever, laid beside him while he slept for 16hours, I was his legs when he couldnt walk & I was his voice when no one would listen to him or I. I carried him to his PCP & Childrens hospital 9 out of 11 days begging for them to test my son for Lyme disease, only to be told it was unlikely, bad luck, a virus. I refused to leave childrens until blood test were done. The doctor told me I was fishing because I didnt see a tic or a bite. The results take 2-4 days to come back. I couldnt just sit there. I bursted into my doctors again balling uncontrollably telling him I dont have a job, my kids are my job & I will be here until someone prescribes me a f%#ing antibiotic. FINALLY he did, with the words I strongly discourage you from using it. That same day, I, me, his mother saw his heart pulsating in his collarbone. The doctor praised me on my good observation & sent my son for an EKG, ECO & cheat X-ray.... My son DID test positive for Lyme. It had attacked his joints & his heart. His heart screening came back so scary that I was called & told to bring him back to Childrens cardiovascular unit immediately (a call no mother should ever endure). Thankfully enough those antibiotics that I was so strongly discouraged from using was already in his system & were reversing the abnormalities of his heart. To hear a echocardiograph specialist tell me I saved my sons life, just brings me to my knees! There is so much to be said about a mothers intuition. Im posting this because 1) Lyme disease is on a rapid incline in PA. Its a very serious condition that should be recognized & tested for when any symptoms are present. It can be transmitted within as little as 12hours & without a bullseye rash. 2) PARENTS you know your child better than anyone, if something isnt right be his/her advocate & never ever give up!
