These photos were taken by Mary Hoffer, an RN at Miller’s in Warsaw, while she was deployed with the American Red Cross in Arkansas after tornadoes devastated multiple communities in late April. Most of Indiana has been fortunate to be spared from this kind of weather so far this year, but finding ways for each of us to be prepared is critical. To help, wed like to introduce you to the American Red Cross Tornado app for iPhone (bit.ly/ARC-apple-01) & Android (bit.ly/ARC-droid-01) smartphones. While the main feature of the app is a warning system, it goes far beyond just sending alerts of impending tornadoes. It includes many features such as information on how to create an emergency kit, step-by-step instructions for what to do during and after a severe storm, functions to alert friends and family that you are safe, the ability to turn your phone into a flashlight or strobe light, and more.
