WJHS Bulldogs dominate Bear Branch opponents WALLER - The Waller Junior High Bulldogs teams brought home four football victories in games with Bear Branch. By Stephanie Burman Eighth Grade A Advertisement The Waller Junior High Eighth Grade Football A Team traveled to Bear Branch on Sept. 17 and claimed a 16-6 victory. It was a hard-hitting game aas both defenses dominated until the second quarter when Wallers Troy Tomas ran 51 yards for a score. J.R. Williams added the extra points, giving the Dogs an 8-0 lead. After a Tommy Thompson interception, Williams made a 10-yard TD run and Troy Thomas added the extra points to give the Bulldogs a 14-0 lead. The Waller defense took over and dominated the rest of the game except for a last minute touchdown by the Bears. Leading the defense with big plays were Tommy Thompson, Courtney Sims, Jonathan Gilford, and Josh Lee. Pride Ball winner was Tommy Thompson for one interception and several big tackles. Eighth Grade B The WJH Eighth Grade B Team took an 8-0 win over the Bears at Bear Branch. The game started with good defensive play when Carlos Salas recovered a fumble on the opening drive. The Waller defense played well the rest of the game, never letting the Bears into the end zone. The Dogs had one sustained drive in the first half that ended with a spectacular touchdown when quarterback Danny Redd threw a 21-yard pass to Tommy Siegal for the only score of the game. Outstanding defensive players were Salas, Redd, Richard Herrin, and Michael Portillo. Pride Ball winner was Redd for his excellent work on both sides of the ball. Seventh Grade A The WJH Seventh Grade A Team dominanated with a 22-0 win over Bear Branch Sept. 17 at Waller. Defensively, Mason Gibbs, Terry Holley, and Bradley Bonds helped shut down the Bear Branch offense. When the Dogs got the ball, it was a Jacoby Davis track meet as the Waller running back scored three touchdowns and rushed for over 150 yards. Also excelling on offense were running backs Nick Turner and Colton Johnson, quarterback Daniel Hendrix, and the entire offensive line. Undersized by over 50 pounds per player on the defensive line, Tom Lockler, Aaron Valentine, Shaun Pinheiro, Ryan Villarreal, Nathan Roub, Billy Rudisill, and Abel Limon dominated their larger opponents, helping lead the Dogs to their second consecutive shutout. Pride Ball winner was Jacoby Davis with three touchdowns in the game. Seventh Grade B The WJH Seventh Grade B Team had a tough battle against Bear Branch at Bulldog Stadium Sept. 17, but the Dogs emerged with a 16-14 win over the Bears. After falling behind early, the Dogs came storming back with a one-yard TD run by Derrick George. Jason Stiltner added the extra points for an 8-8 tie. The defense then came out hard, led by Daniel Penwell, John McCauley, Preston Herrington, Buddy Ratcliff, and Troy Losoya. After Bear Branch scored a touchdown to go up 14-8, Waller quarterback Troy Losoya led the Dogs down the field to score on a 1-yard run. Buddy Ratcliff scored the go-ahead extra points to seal the victory for the Dogs.
