They call me Sheriff after all of these years That was my rank when I retired Yet they still call me Sheriff though its no longer required. Officers and their agencies have a special connect And with the passing of time, this I tried to protect. I am remembered by those with whom I once served Most still call me Sheriff, a great honor they have preserved. It may be from habit that I’m still called by my rank But to the many who do it I sincerely thank It makes me feel good and makes me proud Knowing such kind people my former agency is endowed. I am neither vain nor ego impelled But when I’m called Sheriff I feel so upheld. What a great group of people to call my peers I always appreciate it and the emotions sometimes bring tears.
