They told us it couldnt be done, and then they did it! Last month the city council authorized acquisition of a little chunk of SMART land that will make it possible to run Petaluma Water Ways bike-pedestrian trail under the future railroad bridge. Itll still be awhile before funding and construction makes this trail open to the public (lets hope its in our lifetimes), but its a big step forward in connecting the Marina with the Turning Basin. Still to come: a CalTrans permit to run the trail under the freeway, and a way to bridge the ditch between the RR and the Marina, but this is PROGRESS.
