Things your teacher says every day: Part 4: Plie is the - TopicsExpress

Things your teacher says every day: Part 4: Plie is the foundation of most movement in classical ballet. It seems everything either starts or ends with a plie. When you plie open the knee over the foot to maintain alignment and prevent injury. Make sure your heel is down (grande plie has different uses). Lift up through your torso as you bend- it should not be a sinking motion. Learn to use your plie in different ways- sometimes it is a preparation with power and strength coming from it, sometimes it is an absorption of power and strength at the end of a movement, sometimes it is a stretch... Dont think of it as a position - it is far to versatile and active. Plie is the first thing you learn and the last thing you master. -Suzanne Farrell
