Thinking about forgiveness suddenly and how it seems like a lot of people believe it to be some sort of virtue. I think that forgive and forget is very dangerous. I think that it leads to complacency and repetition. I think it is a way to compromise your humanity. Ive seen a number of posters lately that promote forgiveness without request and it sort of sickens me. I believe that if you forgive someone without them apologizing it is the same as being disrespectful. Not just to them but to yourself. To forgive someone before theyve asked you to robs them of the realization that what theyve done is wrong. It stunts their growth. Its degrading. It means that you dont care about this human being enough to let them know the real you. It means that you dont really care about the relationship. It also means that you dont care about yourself enough to be honest about your opinion, your feelings.
