Thinking back on the life of Mickey Rooney...He made his first - TopicsExpress

Thinking back on the life of Mickey Rooney...He made his first film appearance in 1926, at the age of 5. He never stopped making movies. His movie career lasted 88 years. No one else even comes close. I sent the American Film Institute an email a couple of years ago letting them know this fact for the purpose of inquiring why Mickey Rooney, who was the biggest movie star in the world for a time during the 1930s, did not have a Lifetime Achievement Award from their organization but Tom Hanks, who received one at the age of 45, did. Tom Hanks movie career at the time he received his award spanned all of 22 years. That is SOME lifetime. The AFI let me know that having a long career in movies was not enough to receive a lifetime achievement award. The actor or actress had to still be greatly contributing to the art of film. That didnt used to be their criteria, but it became that in the late 90s or early 00s. Personally, I think thats a load of crap. If ONE actor deserved a lifetime achievement award, it was Mickey Rooney. God bless you, Mickey!
