Thiruvananthapuram: The state has been receiving widespread rains with the monsoon picking up intensity. Heavy rains lashed northern parts of Kerala on Tuesday morning too. The Met sources have predicted more rains over the next three days. Also, fishermen were advised not to venture into sea as wind speed could touch 60 km/hr. The waterloggedroads anduprooted trees paralysed traffic at several places. The rains caused an estimated loss of Rs 17 lakh in Kozhikode district alone. Crops in 10 hectors were damaged while 23 houses were partially damaged. The depression developed off Odisha coast has brought heavy rains to the state. Meanwhile, the Electricity Board sources said the catchments of dams have started getting rains. They said the prevailing power deficit can de tackled if the catchment areas are getting rains for 10 days in this month. While the northern districts up to is getting low rains, the southern parts of the stage received heavy showers.
