This And That, Catch Up Good morning everyone! Today begins a typical work week for many of you. For me my busy week just ended and I get to breathe a little and catch up on stuff after an extremely busy seven days. But in this business there really is no day off, which is a-okay with me. I am blessed. I love what I do and I like to stay busy and challenged. Today is Dannys birthday. Hes six-years-old. As the youngest volunteer for AEAR my little boy is grandfathered in as a volunteer since rules say you have to be eight to volunteer for AEAR. He really didnt have a choice as to whether he wanted to be a volunteer or not. He has been raised since day one with all the animals and has made dozens of friends through AEAR. Most particularly I need to recognize a few people who have really impacted Danny with their kindness towards him. First, there is Aunt Kathi. (Aunt by choice not blood.) Aunt Kathi has been there for Danny since the very beginning and has earned the title in every way. Aleece, Neil and Mark, a long time AEAR family, have been great friends to Danny. Danny has especially connected to 21-year-old Mark. They are real buddies. There are many more people in AEAR that are true blue friends to Danny and I am so grateful for their love. It hasnt always been easy juggling AEAR and raising Danny all these years but everyones help and acceptance of him has made it completely doable and enjoyable. There is no doubt AEAR volunteers are part of Dannys family. On another subject. You all remember recently the woman who wanted to give up the two guinea pigs and before doing so asked if it would be okay to just let them go in the backyard? And of course I told her no. She was supposed to drop them off last Sunday but never showed up. I know many of you have been worried about those guinea pigs and what may have happened to them. The woman did end up calling me a few days ago. She said that she doesnt drive on the highway and couldnt get a ride from Niles to Libertyville after all. She wanted to reschedule a time to drop them off. Collette, one of our volunteers, offered to pick them up instead. So we should be getting them in a day or two. This morning and last night has been very interesting as far as Echo is concerned. I came downstairs this morning and Echo was up and walking around. Last night Echo even greeted us at the door when we came home after Dannys birthday party and hobbled out onto the deck outside. I figured he wanted some fresh air so I carried him down the stairs where he walked around a bit. I did have to carry him back up the stairs but the last 24 hours he has been quite mobile. As I write this he is walking around the room. His back legs, typically these days resting on their first joints from weakness, are in an upright position like normal back legs would be. Hes watching Danny play with his cars. Its been a good night and morning for Echo, really good. This week, if time permits, I have a story churning around in my brain Id like to share with you about the Spirit Walk. I think many of you will relate to it and maybe Ill even inspire a person or two. Ill tell you, every day there are lessons and miracles around us if we just keep our eyes seeing and our ears hearing and our heart open for receiving. Thats it for now. I hope today you can share a few laughs with someone and make a positive, emotional connection with a few people too. Sharing, caring and connecting is what its all about, isnt it? S
