This Daguerrotype is our last example of photographs on non-paper - TopicsExpress

This Daguerrotype is our last example of photographs on non-paper supports. The image is on a copper plate with a polished silver coating. When rotated slightly the image shifts between positive and negative which makes it very difficult to photograph the photograph. Daguerrotypes and ambrotypes were usually placed in protective cases. To distinguish the three types of photos, tintypes are attracted to a magnet, Daguerrotypes are on copper and flash between negative and positive and Ambrotypes are on glass and always appear as a positive image.
