This Fall artspace becomes a little more twisted, a little more spooky, and a little more horrifyingly wonderful. Dr. Blood -- The Physician of Fright -- returns to Shreveport after a mysterious absence of almost 30 years to introduce the new artspace exhibition Library Macabre: A Vision of Literary Fright. Drew Edward Hunter, the creator of Dr. Blood, also unveils his solo exhibition Spectrum. The Opening Reception for Library Macabre: A Vision of Literary Fright and Spectrum is Friday, September 12 at 5:30 p.m. at artspace. The exhibitions run from September 12 through October 31, 2014 in Mainspace and Coolspace. Library Macabre: A Vision of Literary Fright, curated and co-created by Drew Edward Hunter a.k.a. Dr. Blood, is based on Hunter’s highly theatrical, visually elaborate and utterly terrifying haunted experience. Hunter, a Shreveport native artist and creative spirit, wrote and designed the show and developed the character of Dr. Blood to serve as a host and media “spokesghoul”. The shows were staged at the Louisiana State Fair from 1975-1985 and became a cult classic. Now the infamous and diabolical Dr. Blood makes his comeback with a new twist on literary favorites. Working with a team of local artists, artspace transforms into a multi-faceted, three-dimensional horror exhibition based on classic and modern literary tales. The eight brave and visionary Northwest Louisiana artists to help create the themed sections of the exhibitions are: Mimi Webb (Interview with the Vampire); John Gillespie (Phantom of the Opera); Jason Pliler (Case of Charles Dexter Ward); Emily Daye (Mask of the Red Death); Su Stella (Dracula); Rena Brittenham (Cask of Amontillado); Donald Webb (It); Chuck Loridans (The Picture of Dorian Gray). Lending an atmosphere of utter “macabreness”, Richard Salkin and Tracy Chappell compose the original music to Library Macabre. Dont forget to lunch in our hauntingly delicious cafe!!!
