This Months Dead Diva Spotlight belongs to Miss Skeeter Davis who was born Mary Frances Penick on December 30, 1931 & Passed Away on September 19, 2004. Skeeter Started out as half of The Davis Sisters in the late 1940s with her friend, Betty Jack Davis (1932-1953). Before their song I Forgot More Than Youll Ever Know became a #1 hit in 1953, a car accident killed Betty Jack & left Skeeter seriously injured. Re-starting The Davis Sisters in 1954 with Betty Jacks older sister, Georgia Davis Babbitt, they never reached the top hit spot that were attained with Betty Jack. Disbanding the group in 1956 to get married. Skeeter was urged by Ernest Tubb to be his girl singer in his touring road show. Still under contract to RCA Victor, Skeeter started singing solo, but with a twist. Skeeter was overdubbed to have that harmony sound that made the first Davis Sisters records so special. Skeeter had several big records, some even crossed over to the pop charts. Her Big career defining record came in 1963 with The End Of The World. Skeeter continued to have many top 40 country hits after The British Invasion killed her pop career. Skeeter became a huge star abroad after her career slowed down in the US. Skeeter passed away from breast cancer at the age of 72 in 2004. She was a member of The Grand Ol Opry 45 years at the time of her death. Her life story Bus Fare To Kentucky was a best seller hardback book in 1996.
