This Morning I got up a little earlier than I normally do, petted - TopicsExpress

This Morning I got up a little earlier than I normally do, petted the Dogs and tried to let them outside with no luck, So I shut the door and headed to the kitchen to make my Mocha. Something caught my attention out side. I walked over to the window and looked out and there on the water in the Pond Bob dug last Summer were Mr. and Mrs. Mallard. Just swimming along and happy in the gray early morning light. I was so excited, I havent seen Mrs. Mallard for a while so am guessing they have a nest some where out there. I have seen Mr. Mallard but it had been a few days so I was a little concerned, I have been out there and tried walking around to see if I could spy the nest but couldnt get very close because of sinking into the muck around the pond. That area used to be swampy year round but hasnt been for a few years now. I watched Mr. And Mrs. Mallard for quite a while and was hoping to see where they went but they stayed out there for around 2 hours, Our 2 little Dogs kept barking at them when they went out so I had to yell at them and finally make them come in. Then I watched the Mallards, Tilly and Drake, they swam around the edges poking their Bills into the Mud around the shore eating bugs or grass roots or whatever it is they are doing. Then Quite casually Tilly swam up to one bank and waddled up the side of it and disappeared with Drake following right behind her. I am Hoping and praying for a day that there will be little Duckling Mallards waddling along behind Mr. and Mrs. Mallard. I must also add that even without the added Blessing of the ducks Living out there I have decided I Love having that little Body of water out in my back yard. It is an ever changing tapestry. When it rains the surface Gets little Bubbles floating on the top, that sparkle white then Pop , I imagine them As Fairys and water sprites. When the sun is shining the waters surface reflects the trees and Grasses on the shore back up like a perfect picture, and when the wind blows it ripples and falling leaves land on it and float till they either hit the shore or sink. At night it is alive and riotous with Frogs croaking and singing out their courting songs to find a mate. They are loud To the point where I lay in my bed and get the giggles at the ruckus. How do they know to all stop at once, then start up slowly to the loud song the chorus of them make. I am praying the water doesnt dry up this summer but if it does I am hoping it wont be until all those millions of frogs eggs out there turn into Pollywogs and then frogs. Have I said , I LOVE where we Live?
