This Ramadan, there are many of us coming back to the masjid in hopes of finding God. Some of us may be coming for the first time, ever. Others, for our first time in a long, long time. Some of us may be dressed in whats considered the masjid norm. Some, in what makes others most comfortable. Others of us may feel hypocritical dressing a certain way just so that we may not be judged. All of us are coming with the same burning hope: to find God and meaning in our often broken lives, especially in this month. Dont be the person who closes that door of hope for someone. We do not know anyones struggle. And if we did, its likely we would realize that the sincerity with which anyone comes to the masjid in this month is so much more beloved in the sight of God than the self-piety many of us ascribe to our status with Him. He accepts us with all of our baggage. Let us, too, reflect that acceptance in our smiles, kind words and welcoming of all this Ramadan. Dont judge anyone. Outer appearances and actions are easy to pass judgment on but are never clear windows into the heart. After all, if people were over at your place, would you be cool if some guests kicked other guests out? Mosques are the Houses of God. He doesnt kick those seeking Him out. He welcomes them over and over and over and over. Welcome all into the House of God.
