This Town used to lead the way and be so proactive, Barry docks - TopicsExpress

This Town used to lead the way and be so proactive, Barry docks still holds the world record for tonnage of Coal exported in a year ( likely never to be beaten) yet whats left to show? Not a single piece of Machinery preserved, not a plaque to commemorate this amazing achievement. Barry had Wales first Zoo but when it ran into financial difficulty and turned to the Council for help they refused, resulting in the Zoo closing, We Had 5 Cinemas in the Town at one time, now we have to go into Cardiff, spend our hard earned money that could and should be spent in our own town, in Cardiff. Same with Shopping, nothing is done to promote Holton road and its an embarrassment with its charity, cash for gold and Card shops! the big chains are given no incentive to come here as the business rates are ridiculously over the top and the people in power would prefer to see units sat empty that to reduce them! Butlins used to attract visitors from all over the Country and the influx of tourists and day trippers was a huge boost to the local economy, providing many jobs for our kids, same with the pleasure park, arcades, nightclubs and pubs and gift shops who all suffered massively as a result of its closure! The Knap Lido was the biggest open air Lido in the UK and for 60 years was loved by the People of Barry and the 1000s who came here to use the pool every summer. It isnt rocket science that we have some fantastic beaches and parks and if you give the visitors a reason to come then they will do, creating jobs and boosting the local economy. #BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME!!!
